Students in 1st - 5th grade at Sibley and Lakeview have received their AUP, Internet Safety & Cyberbullying training for the 2014-2015 school year.
Through conversations and videos we discussed ways to be responsible using technology, how to be safe online, and what to do if we happen to run into a cyber bully.
We covered many important points that are detailed below:
Technology in the district is for learning.
Different types of technology in our district are:
Computers
iPads
iPods
Some things you do at home might not be acceptable at school.
Use of our school’s technology and access to the Internet is a privilege, not a right.
You may not:
Post
personal information about yourself on the Internet (last name, phone number,
address, etc.)
Repost
information about someone without their permission.
Log onto
a computer with another person’s information.
Violate
copyright laws or plagiarize works you find on the internet.
If you
break these rules there will be consequences.
As a student with access to iPads, iPods, computers, and the
Internet, you promise to:
Follow the safety rules.
Tell an adult if anything makes you feel scared, uncomfortable, or
confused.
Turn off your monitor until an adult can help you.
Not share your personal information online at school.
Not meet in person with anyone you meet online.
Not use rude or mean language on the Internet.
Not respond to any message that is mean or makes you feel scared,
uncomfortable, or confused.
Tell a trusted adult if you get those messages.
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic
technology.
It can occur through:
Text messages
Email
Embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles
Online gaming
Social Networking
If you're a victim of cyberbullying:
Don’t respond to or forward the messages
Block the person who is cyberbullying
Report the problem to your parents or a trusted adult
Keep evidence of the cyberbullying:
Dates
Times
Descriptions of what was sent
Save emails, text messages, etc.
